DKNY has gone the route of Marc Jacobs and has significantly slashed their guest list. DKNY will be sticking to a traditional show and opting out of a presentation with a guest list of 400 instead of the usual 1,000.
The economy shows its ugly face again. Marc Jacobs has cut the number of invitees from 2,000 to 700. The usual body count is usually 1,100 sitting and 900 standing, but after the cuts, the figure will be around 500 to 700 sitting while 200 will be standing(all of the standing spots are going to employees). Apparently, the cuts are to save money because he'd rather cut costs than jobs. "This isn't the time to spend the money to entertain the entire world…. Everybody thinks it costs the same money to entertain 500 people as opposed to 2,000" Jacobs's business partner Robert Duffy said.
With all the discounting that has been going on, will consumers have the heart to keep shopping when all of the discount dust has settled. Barneys' shoes were discounted upwards of 80% during February with patent navy flats by Lanvin at $199, and suede calf bootees by Marc Jacobs at $157. Good luck convincing some of these consumers to pay full price once the economy stabilizes.
Here's a look at Marc Jacobs and Madonna behind the scenes of the Madonna/Louis Vuitton collaboration. It's pretty interesting to see how the fashion duo work in their element. I must say, if there is one singer who knows about changing with the times, it's definitelt Madonna.....her fashion style has changed so many times that i lost count about two years ago.
