Peter Som

Peter Som has been having some pretty shitty luck lately, with his departure from Bill Blass, and then being financially severed from Creative Design Studios, it looks like things just aren't going according to plan with ole Pete. Such is life, and it looks like he's trying to get his bearings and point in a direction that he can go forward instead of backwards. "Shit happens," he sighed. "Sometimes it's a lot, sometimes it's a little. So I think everyone's going through some tough times." the designer said. Well whatever bad luck he may face, always keep your head up and leave an open ear for when opportunity knocks.

Peter Som hasn't been having alot of good luck these days and he's trying come up with an idea of how he can present his Fall 2009 collection despite parting ways with his financial backer. "We're being thrown for a loop. They say it's the worst recession in 100 years and we're right in the middle of it, so I think everybody's having to readjust." he said of having to be a young upstart label. When asked whether he would consider doing a Target or H&M line, he said "I think any option, just really looking at anything in a different way — you know, never say never." Dude, any option at this point for you is a good option!

I don't know what Peter Som did in his past life, but it couldn't of been anything good. The designer has been having a steady stream of bad luck. First with Bill Blass, and now he's cancelled his Fall 2009 runway show because Creative Design Studios has broken their partnership with him. The reason behind the seperation is because the Studio is planning on focusing more on "core businesses" like the department store rather than "strategic partnerships" like Som's line(ouch). "We have realized that our strategic interests are no longer aligned and feel that this is the best direction for our company at this time," Elana Posner(CEO and President of Creative Design Studios) said. Only thing left, is a cow to fall on Som's head.

It's official, Peter Som has left Bill Blass. Peter expressed to WWD that it was an "extremely difficult decision" and he plans to focus on growing his own label. Peter's frustration about NexCen, which owns Bill Blass, could not support the Blass line financially the way he envisioned. It couldn't be easy when NexCen hadn't paid fabric vendors and embroiderers. Though unfortunate, all i can say is best of luck to ya Pete, maybe you'll find another company who can back you 100%. Maybe then your ideas can truly be expressed.

According to Portfolio , NexCen, the brand behind Bill Blass, is sinking. This news has sparked fears that Peter Som will be looking for work soon as the house is in desperate need of funds and fast cash.
